In order to strengthen the human rights field and improve advocacy, the Human Rights Institute (HRI) studies how advocates navigate inequalities and power imbalances within the human rights field, and explores effective tactics for advancing equality.
Equality and non-discrimination are at the center of human rights work, yet inequalities exist among organizations and individuals within the field. As advocates look to recalibrate power between the Global North and Global South, and to develop equitable and inclusive strategies, most literature has not kept pace with innovations in human rights practice.
HRI aims to advance equality in the human rights field and enhance the understanding of how practitioners are tackling inequality in their work and responding to academic critiques of the human rights field across the globe. We map and assess transformative approaches to human rights advocacy, convene experts, and produce scholarly research that highlights innovations.
