Waleed Alhariri
Waleed Alhariri is the Managing Director of the Human Rights Institute, where he previously has been a Fellow-in-Residence. Alhariri’s work since 2015 with the Sana’a Center for Strategic Studies, as an Executive Team member and as head of US operations, included organizing international events and advising the diplomatic community, UN agencies, and INGOs on Yemen-related policy issues. The dire need for sustainable development in Yemen led Alhariri to found Sheba Bees in 2024, a social enterprise designed to empower Yemeni beekeepers and aid their rural communities by providing support, resources and market access for their honey.
Prior to these endeavors, Alhariri worked with the International Peace Institute on its Arab Forum for Citizenship in Transition project. He was a Carnegie New Leader at Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs as well as a member of the International Constitutional Court Project Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by former Tunisian President Dr. Moncef Marzouki.
Alhariri holds a B.A. in political science and human rights from Hunter College. His studies primarily focused on the constitutional design and transitional justice processes in his native Yemen.
