Tor Hodenfield

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Tor has over 12 years’ experience developing targeted campaigns, advocacy, research and coalition building for a range of national and international civil society groups and UN agencies. Tor recently served as the UN Advocacy Adviser, UN Human Rights Council Coordinator and the Vuka! Coalition Coordinator at CIVICUS, working on issues of civic space. He has served as a Human Rights Researcher for the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, supporting the mandate’s youth and child Human Rights Defenders portfolio. Tor has also worked extensively at the national level, including supporting civil society groups in Ghana and Ethiopia. In addition, he has conducted strategic research on a range of rights issues from supporting protest movements to developing protection models for child human rights defenders. He holds degrees in human rights from American University, Washington D.C., and University College London (UCL).
