The Human Rights Institute (HRI) believes those most directly affected by human rights violations should drive social justice efforts, and we work in partnership with rightsholders, communities, and civil society. We share legal and policy research, technical assistance, advocacy guidance, and assistance in accessing governments and human rights mechanisms. HRI also invests in longterm partnerships based on mutual exchange, and builds coalitions, facilitates strategy development, provides critiques of the structures that marginalize communities, and supports advocates to elevate their voices and increase their power.

Through its courses and programming, HRI educates the next generation of human rights leaders. Our scholars and practitioners teach students how to be strategic advocates for social justice. HRI also publishes guides and materials on the theory and skills of reflective and critical human rights advocacy.
